Hi everyone,

I hope you're all doing well in the new year!

I just wanted to say that I found a whole bunch of weight loss/fitness blinkies and avatars that might help if you're interested! I especially like the blinkies that say X pounds down, X pounds to go, because it feels really good to change one every five pounds.

Enjoy!

the ordinary, quick meal [25 Jun 2007|01:06pm]

phaseolus
I'm looking for suggestions for a sort of a 'default' dinner.

Even when I was single & only feeding myself, my usual dinner when I didn't feel like spending a lot of time planning my meal or cooking it was a big plate of spaghetti. Boil some noodles, dump on some sauce from a jar, pour on a small heap of grated cheese. It's quick and palatable, but nutritionally I think there might be a healthier choice out there. (I'm not an Atkins type - I've never counted a single carb in my life - but I have a sneaking suspicion that all that refined white starch might not be the ideal thing for me.)

So -- what do you all eat in situations like this? A brief description is what I'm after, I can always look around for recipes myself. I'm thinking some sort of rice/beans/seasoned meat burrito thingie might be good for me, but the more suggestions I can get, the better. Already, whenever I remember to go to Trader Joe's I stock up on their Indian foods in pouches which I eat with their Basmati rice, it's a nice change from spaghetti.

Thanks in advance...

Background: Although I'm aware of all of the benefits, we really don't have a family meal. My wife doesn't like to cook. I love cooking - and eating - with a special interest in ethnic foods, and would love to be the main meal planner, but I get yelled at if my choice is something my wife won't like... which is almost all the time. So as a result my wife, my three kids, and I behave as if we're all single people. We grab what we can.

Resources [28 May 2007|10:25am]

unknownsilence
I dont know if anyone has mentioned these here, but here are some new resources I have been using and seem to like fairly well.

thedailyplate.com
This has a TON of information, and it also lets you start up an account with them which will help you track your weight loss, the food your eating, exercise, and all that jazz. Its a really good site for information on almost ANYTHING edible, with nutrition contents of so much stuff. Great site for the nutrition content, though I think the "Plate" (where you record your food) is lacking. If it has nutrition facts for 1 tbs of olive oil, but you only use maybe a tsp, it wont let you use a tsp, but only records a tbs. Not liking that part so much.

calorieking.com
Another site similar to TheDailyPlate, and the first one I used for finding nutrition facts. One thing I have recently discovered on here is some recipes for low fat foods, or foods that were revamped to be less fat. Truly neat site, but you have to pay to become a member and use their software for keeping track of your food/diet.

weightbydate.com
This is a new software I am checking out. I think I may have burned myself out on WW, so trying this for a change. It has everything I have been looking for in a program/software/thingy. It counts what I eat, lets me put in recipes so I can easily add stuff, keeps track of my weight/food/measurements and just all around makes it easier. It also has a HUGE database built in of foods, or you can add your own. I'm going to be very strict with myself to put everything in there. If I do end up really liking it, I'm going to end up buying the full version (you only get a 15 day trial). But in the end, it'll probably be worth the $37.

squee!

i took out the ticker, just not working

Getting closer [20 Apr 2007|08:13am]

lrigmodnaremos
Another Friday, another weigh-in.  And, I am down .5 a pound.  Slow and steady...  Today I am wearing my size 16 Old Navy jeans that I couldn't button last month.  I am slightly uncomfortable, so it may have been too early, but I've been getting compliments all day.  Perhaps by next casual Friday they will be better.
